Brighten Up, Buttercup

Give your home a little freshen up for spring, without breaking the budget.

Out with the old

Be gone dark browns and shades of winter’s grey, and make way for lighter, brighter shades like pastels, soft greens, yellows and whites. Add accents in vibrant hues like coral or turquoise for a pop of energy and if the budget is tight, consider a statement wall or simply focus on updating soft furnishings.

In with the floral

Nothing says spring (or I love you), like flowers! Incorporate fresh or faux flowers like tulips, daffodils, or cherry blossoms into vases for instant spring charm. Floral patterns on cushions, curtains or rugs will also bring a little of that seasonal magic inside.

Clean and declutter

Christmas may have been months ago, but that sense of overindulgence and excess can linger on. So, get rid of everything that doesn’t serve you in the moment, make space, make a little money selling clutter online, open the windows and let some air in as you deep clean and renew.

Switch it up

Store those heavy duvets and wintery, woollen blankets, swap your thick drapes for something thinner and sunnier and add some light, vibrant throws and pillows to your lounge area. Cashmere blankets are lighter and still feel luxurious, while incorporating other natural materials, such as wicker, rattan or bamboo, will bring lightness and a touch of the exotic.

Re-scent

Amber and oud are wonderful fragrances, but spring calls for lemon, bergamot, basil and fig. Candles, wax melts and scent diffusers are a fantastic way to revive your home and your heart as you breathe in and dream of pastures new.

Update your dining

Alongside eating all the delicious fare spring offers us in abundance, consider investing in some tableware that evokes the season also. Floral tablecloths, pastel plates or decorative centrepieces inspired by the season can add a touch of whimsy or classic, rustic elegance depending on your taste.

Glow up

Let there be light! Add lighter lampshades, use daylight bulbs, or incorporate string lights for a softer glow. Open curtains to maximise light and remember that your circadian rhythms rely on you getting light in the daylight hours, not to mention the benefits of vitamin D from natural sunlight.

Welcome

Share your glorious home with friends and family. Set a table in your entranceway with a vase of fresh blooms, or consider a seasonal wreath adorned with spring flowers to hang on your front door. Let the world know that Spring has arrived and that you are ready for it.
