Alcester Town Council Update - December 25/January 26

Official Launch of the Alcester Town Council Community Flood Resilience Panel

The objective of this panel is to ensure the town is prepared for floods and – should the worst occur – able to recover from flooding. Alcester’s last flood was in 2007. The town has remained flood-free since the completion of major flood alleviation schemes in 2012.

Within the council-led panel is the newly launched volunteer Flood Watcher Scheme, which gives residents more power and responsibility to protect themselves and their property before, during and after flooding. Residents interested in supporting the panel by volunteering were invited to a public meeting launching the scheme on 8th October.

Volunteer roles are risk-free and include monitoring the Arrow and Alne rivers, inspecting bridges and checking road drains in Alcester’s four designated flood-risk zones. Outdoor surveillance is key, but there are other volunteer roles that focus on behind-the-scenes coordination and data management. The time commitment is 2-3 hours once every 1-3 months and no experience is required.

The next Flood Watcher meeting is scheduled for late November / early December with additional gatherings planned for 2026. If you are interested in joining the initiative, contact Alcester Town Council on 01789 766084 or email administration@alcester-tc.gov.uk.

Mayor’s Charity Fundraising – 100 Coffee Mornings

On Sunday 7th September 2025, the Mayor of Alcester, Cllr David Henderson and the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Gill Forman (who will be Mayor of Alcester in 2026) officially launched the first of 100 coffee mornings, to be held over 2 years, to raise funds for the Mayor’s nominated charity, Alcester Day Care, which supports people with dementia and their carers.

A number of coffee mornings have so far been held at The Alcester War Memorial Town Hall, Great Alne Park, Alcester Academy, Jubilee Court Residents Association and by some local residents in their homes.

If you would like to host a coffee morning at home or at work, please register the event with Alcester Day Care by calling 01789 765971 or emailing info@alcesterdaycare.org. Please provide your name, telephone number, email address, location of the coffee morning and the date it will be held.

All are invited to join in with this special fundraising initiative, so keep an eye out for the posters and join us when you can!
