Alcester Town Council Update - April/May 25

VE DAY 80th Anniversary

On 8th May 2025, we mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, as our nation unites to celebrate 80 years of peace since the end of World War II in Europe.

In conjunction with the Alcester Branch of the Royal British Legion, Alcester Town Council will be marking this special day with a number of local events.

The programme is as follows:

  • 8.30am - Town Crier
  • 9am - Flag raising on Church Green
  • 6.30pm - Church bells ring out
  • 7pm - Residents arrive at Centenary Field
  • Short service by Rev Katie Cross, Alcester Minster
  • 8pm - Lighting of the beacon at Centenary Field

Light refreshments will be available afterwards. All are welcome to join us for this very special day.

Alcester Food Festival

Alcester Food Festival returns to the town on 17th May 2025 for a fantastic day of fabulous food, drink and more.

Alcester secondary schools will be involved in a ‘Marvellous Creations Traybake Competition’, with judging of the baking taking place in the Town Hall. Prizes will be awarded for the winning pupils in each age group, and for the overall highest scoring school.

New for this year is a special session with experts focused on engaging young people in food and food education.

This will be followed by an informal networking brunch with refreshments funded by Countryside Classroom. For more information and to book a ticket to this funded event please email elizabeth@countrysideclassroom.org.uk.

News about the event and information for exhibitors and visitors is available on our website: www.alcesterfoodfestival.org.uk/ and on Facebook and Instagram.

Finally, if you would like to volunteer to help in any way, please email Lesley Henderson on alcesterfoodfestivalsecretary@gmail.com.
