Gather One And All

Nothing ignites the spirit of Christmas quite like family games. Shifting away from the world of video games, let's dive into some traditional games that promise laughter, bonding and timeless memories.

Hunt The Ornament
Little ones enjoy a good search, but occasionally need a helping hand. This game helps to foster group camaraderie.

Players
A minimum of 3 participants.

What you’ll need
A thimble or for a festive touch, a tiny Christmas decoration.

The Object
Locate the hidden thimble or decoration.

How to play
With the group temporarily out of the room, a designated player places the object in an unexpected yet visible location. Upon their return, the participants hunt. Spotted the object? Sit down silently, careful not to reveal its position. The last one to spot it is out.

Tip
Ensure a few rounds are reasonably straightforward to maintain the enthusiasm of younger players.

Pass The Giggle
Challenge a group not to smile and watch the magic unfold. This humorous game provides a subtle way to exchange cheerful glances, but also tests the very best actors in the family.

Players
Between 5 to 20, ensuring everyone is visible to each other.

What you’ll need
Seating arrangement in a circle.

The Object
Avoid smiling, except when it's your turn. Any unexpected smiles, chuckles or laughter will get you eliminated.

How to play
All participants sit in a circle. The designated ‘It’ begins with a broad smile, later wiping and ‘throwing’ it to another player. This player ‘wears’ the smile and eventually passes it on, all while the others remain expressionless. Any trace of amusement and you're out!

Tip
Younger participants might struggle to contain their giggles, but their joy is what makes this game special.

Top Trumps
A card-based challenge that tests your strategic skills.

Players
2 or more.

What you’ll need
A deck of Top Trumps cards. These can usually be any you want to use.

The Object
Outsmart your opponent by comparing card stats and aim to collect all the cards.

How to play
Each player receives an equal set of cards. The leading player reads out a stat from their card and the others follow suit. The highest stat wins, earning that player all the played cards. Continue until one player gathers the entire deck.

Chase The Ace
An exciting card game filled with luck and strategy.

Players
Three or more.

What you’ll need
A standard deck of cards.

The Object
Avoid ending up with the lowest card.

How to play
Each player is dealt a card. Starting with the dealer's left, players can either keep their card or swap it with the next person. The player left with the lowest card after everyone has had a turn loses that round.
