Getting Active With Your Family

The Commonwealth Games has started with Leamington Spa hosting the Lawn and Para Bowls, and Warwick hosting the road cycling race. With it comes a renewed enthusiasm for getting active, so Warwick Nursery School have shared some simple but effective ways of increasing your family activity levels.

You don’t need us to tell you that getting active can be hugely beneficial for body and mind, and when you involve the whole family, it can be a great opportunity to share experiences and tighten bonds.

Top tips from Warwick Nursery School:

Think about activities that everyone can join in with safely. Cycling is a really good way to get out and about. We love our cycle track at Warwick Nursery School which enables younger children to have fun safely, and there is a large public version of this at the Stratford Recreation Ground. Perfect for letting them whizz around away from road traffic.

Introduce a new game, such as playing boules. If you don’t have a level outdoor space, there is a small area for this at St Nicholas Park. You can even hire a set of boules from the adventure golf, free of charge.

Walking is a super way to get some fresh air and exercise. Locally, there are measured miles signposted, or you could make up your own route through Priory Park or even venture to Hatton for a canal-side wander. Combine it with a mini beast or scavenger hunt and you might clock up more steps than you realise!

If you have older children, you could hire a boat on the river Avon. It’s a great way to get some exercise and see the town from a different angle.

Whatever you choose to do, we hope you have a fantastic summer!
