The Friendship Project for Children Appoints New Area Coordinator for Nuneaton, Bedworth and North Warwickshire

Hannah Peattie joined the Friendship Project for Children in January 2023 as the new Area Coordinator for the north of the county. Established in 1986, the charity has supported over 1,500 children across Warwickshire who have needed some extra support, and continues to fulfil the growing demand for their service.

Hannah brings with her a wealth of experience in supporting families facing a variety of challenges. She has done lots of volunteering work and has 4 children of her own. She is originally from Eastbourne on the south coast, but she waved goodbye to the seaside and ventured to the Midlands 4 years ago, where she and her family are now settled in Nuneaton.

Hannah says, “I love working with children and families and I know how vital a charity like the Friendship Project is to change lives and give much needed support to those involved.”

The Friendship Project supports children who are in need for a variety of reasons. They might be caring for a sick parent or limited to what activities they can do because of a disabled sibling or family member. Having time away from a sometimes-difficult home situation really can boost a child’s self-esteem. We match children and young people with volunteers for friendship and fun so that they can enjoy some quality one-to-one time together.

Our volunteers are called ‘Older Friends’ and they take out their ‘Younger Friend’ for a couple of hours once a week. Our volunteers tell us that they also enjoy the outings with their Younger Friends, watching their confidence grow and knowing that they are really making a difference to the child’s life.

Cheryll Rawbone, Chairman at the Friendship Project comments, “We are delighted to have Hannah on board bringing her enthusiasm to the team. Our referrals, all from social services, are increasing so the strength Hannah will add to the team will allow us to grow our support.”

The Friendship Project is an amazing charity, and we have a fantastic team of staff and volunteers. We are currently supporting 75 children throughout the whole of Warwickshire but with your help, we could support even more young people.

We are always on the lookout for more volunteers, so if you are interested in finding out more, please visit www.friendshipproject.co.uk, @FriendshipProj or call 0845 838 2098.

Our volunteers must live in or near Warwickshire, enjoy being with children, be over 18 years old and be a car owner.
